Cast a Spell on Halloween Spending

By Guest Blogger Denise from STL Motherhood

Costumes! Pumpkins! Buckets of candy! Halloween can be a downright spooky holiday for families on a budget, but not if you have a few “tricks and treats” up your sleeve! According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are going to spend over $6.9 billion on Halloween this year!

But let me show you a little trick for saving money this Halloween, brought to you by my friends at Here Today, the St. Louis retailer who’s all about scaring up a good deal! They sent me on a Halloween shopping trip* to see what kind of ghoulishly good prices I could spot at their Fenton store. They have five stores around the metro area, so hop on your broomstick and fly on over.
(*This is a sponsored post…but you knew that, right?)

The first thing in noticed at my local Here Today was a giant bin of pumpkins, ranging from $1.99 to $5.99. Now, I’m not going to suggest that you totally skip the pumpkin patch–after all, there’s no better place for fall photos! But, you can certainly supplement your pumpkin excursion with these cuties! Maybe a couple small ones for the kitchen counter? One for each porch step, a la Martha Stewart?

You can also get inexpensive costumes and Halloween make up at Here Today, but the real finds are in the decor! Plush kitties, silly monsters, spooky bottles, wooden pumpkins…all starting at $1.99. Those awesome glittery signs are just $3.99 and the plush witchy kitty is eight bucks.

Don’t forget the glow sticks! Keep your Trick or Treaters safe on the sidewalks by stocking up on fun glow sticks, starting at 79 cents! If your child has a costume that could use a magic wand, they’ve got those too. I found them in the party section, so it always pays to browse around the whole store–you never know what kind of fun things you’ll pick up! Actually, Mitch just likes playing Harry Potter with these wands, so I grabbed a couple for him to use before Halloween…

I always spend way too much on candy, but not this year! They have lots of good chocolate assortments starting at just $1.99 a bag, and non-chocolate starting at 99 cents! And this isn’t that weird not-quite-chocolate either, we’re talking Hershey, Dove and Reese’s. I bought a couple bags so we could do a proper review. Mitch says it tastes awesome!

Speaking of taste testing, I noticed some Halloween Spirits of a different sort for after trick-or-treating. The hubs and I are going to uncork some Once Upon a Vine, or maybe 19 Crimes… If you’re into pumpkin beverages, you won’t be disappointed–they also have O’Fallon Pumpkin Beer and Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. The kids can kick back with a bottle of Fitz’s Pumpkin Pop. I think it’s great that they have so many local wines, beer and soda! The prices are great too, with prices starting at $3.99. Yes, that includes the wine! Awesome!
